THE MUSAAJID STANDING AS SILENT SENTINELS

According to the Hadith of Rasulullah (Sallallahu alayhi wasallam), when the Muslims in the vicinity of the Musjid do not fulfil the Haq (right)of the Musjid, the House of Allah invokes the La’nat (Curse) of Allah Azza Wa Jal on the people.

The right of the Musjid is performance of Jamaat Salaat. All over the world this sacred Right of the Musaajid is grossly and flagrantly violated. Besides Fridays, a very small percentage of the neighbourhood Muslims perform Salaat in the Musjid. This reality is best observed during Fajr and Isha’ Salaat when almost all people are at home. These two Salaat are the barometer to gauge the apathy of Muslims towards the Musaajid.

These two Salaat are the most onerous and most loathsome for the Munaafiqeen. The Ummah at large displays the signs of nifaaq at the times of Fajr and Isha’ Salaat with their absence from the Musaajid. When Muslims themselves have pillaged and ravaged the sanctity and rights of the Musaajid, there is no surprise when the oppressive governments, regimes and rulers of the world humiliate us with repressive measures closing the Musaajid.

On the Day of Qiyaamah there will be much for the Musaajid to testify   when this Ummah is indicted in the Divine Court. Added to the testimony of the Musaajid, will be the Complaint of Rasulullah (Sallallahu alayhi wasallam). Regarding this Complaint, the Qur’aan Majeed says that Rasulullah (Sallallahu alayhi wasallam) will lament to Allah Ta’ala:

“O my Rabb! Verily, my Ummah has made this Qur’aan a mahjoor.” (Mahjoor: an object to rebuff and batter – a football).

The consequences of the Curse of the Musaajid are what we are observing today. While we rightly clamour for the Musaajid to be opened, we need to do some serious soul-searching and repent for our vile and flagrant transgressions which are not confined to only neglect of Salaat, but to almost every facet of our lives.

It is vital to understand that the Deen is not a hobby. The teachings of the Shariah may not be discarded or unnecessarily delayed for attending to mundane activities. Rasulullah (Sallallahu alayhi wasallam) said that the quest for halaal rizq is subservient to Salaat. That is, first comes Salaat which is of paramount importance to sustain our Imaan. Thereafter comes our business, work, etc. Imaginary losses and disadvantages for prior attendance to Deeni affairs are superficial trials which should never deter the Mu’min from giving precedence to Deeni obligations.

An integral constituent of sincere Taubah (repentance), is the renewal of the Pledge of Obedience. All sin and futility have to be abandoned. Minus this vital constituent, Taubah is not valid. Only when the vast majority of Muslims reform, then will Allah Ta’ala transform our current state of humiliation into the type of Izzat stated by Hadhrat Umar (Radhiyallahu anhu). On the occasion of taking possession of the prized city of Jerusalem, Hadhrat Umar (Radhiyallahu anhu) said to the Sahaabah and others:

“We are a nation whom Allah has granted Izzat (honour) with Islam.”

No amount of bootlicking, plans, schemes and effort will avail as long as the Ummah does not reform and rectify its bond with Allah Ta’ala. This is possible only by submitting to the Shariah and adopting the Sunnah, and this means the Shariah and the Sunnah as understood and practiced by the Sahaabah. This is the Shariah and Sunnah which existed at the time when Allah Ta’ala announced:

“This Day have I perfected for you your Deen, and complete for you My Favour, and (on this Day) I have chosen Islam for you as Deen.”
